Welcome from The Old Rambler

The guitar has been around for a few hundred years, although not always in its current form. It remains one of the most popular instruments in existence, thanks largely to its portability. If you’ve ever tried to lug a baby grand to a campfire sing along, or a kitchen party at your friend’s house, you understand exactly what I mean.

And the guitar is among the most versatile of musical instruments. You can learn enough to provide chord accompaniment for a few bars of “Michael Row The Boat Ashore” at a summer beer bash, or put in the time (and effort) you need to impress the girls or guys, with classy rock riffs while jammin’ with the local garage band. It’s really up to you.

Yes, I know what you’re thinking. There are hundreds of good guitar sites out there, why do we need another one? Simply put, you don’t. There won’t be much about this site that’s different from the rest. But, I’ll try and keep things simple and gear the site to the novice who’s looking for an inexpensive alternative to the high cost of some of the “beginner” courses out there.

And, I’ll try and do it with a little bit of humour. That way when you’re fingertips are aching and you’re frustrated beyond anything you can now imagine, you’ll hopefully be chuckling too hard to turn your guitar into kindling wood.

I’ll be concentrating my energy on old fashioned country and folk music, so if you’re looking for hard rock, punk rock or any other kind of rock, you’ve come to the wrong place. If there’s anybody left out there, the rest of this blog’s for you.

The guitar pictured in this post is the six string I commonly use. It was a gift from one of my "kids" and her husband. I also have a Norman B20-12, hand made in Canada, that I've had for a long time. Feel free to leave comments or send me an e-mail with your thoughts, suggestions and/or criticism.
